How do you turn a network printer online?
I am at our high school and we cannot get our color printer to turn online. It is on and plugged into our network, and it shows up in our printers panel, but it shows up as Offline. People have said that you right click on it and click Use Online but we don't have that option. It is also not jammed, nor has been jammed recently.
Check your printer's interface cable, re-seat both ends and make sure it is plugged in all the way & securely on both ends.
Power the printer OFF, wait about a minute, then power back ON & see if that gets it going. Make sure there are no errors on the printer itself and it is On-Line and Ready.
Verify that the printer's IP address or Host Name is the same as the port that is setup for it in the computer. Fix it if it isn't.
Make sure the router or switch that it is plugged into is ON and active. Maybe move the printer I/F cable to a different port on the router/switch. Try using a different interface cable all-together as that one may have gone bad.
Also, go to START, select RUN and type in services.msc and then find Print Spooler, then right click & choose Start or Restart, or, select Print Spooler and in the left panel click on Start or Restart.
Another thing to try:
Fo to Printer and Faxes in Control Panel, right click 'Properties' and go to the Ports tab folder. Select the Port IP address in question and click on Configure Port button. Click on the check box next to SNMP [SNMP status enabled] to remove the check mark and to disable the option. Click OK.
