Troubleshoot a Datamax Prodigy Barcode Printer?
I've got a bunch of them I've been troubleshooting and repairing, but a few of them are doing things i cant figure out. I looked in the troubleshooting section of the manual but it doesn't really cover anything that I'm seeing, its really only troubleshooting for an operator, not someone who is repairing them. Basically the problem I'm having is that when i run them in test mode it will act like its printing, but won't put any of the ink on the stickers. I'm thinking its a bad board, I replaced the printhead and ti still didn't work, the ribbon cable also looked fine. So is there anyone who has worked on these that might know what the problem is?

right now its not connected to any software, it's only the printer. By test mode I mean if I turn it off then hold the Feed button while turning it on it will print test labels.
I've done a lot of troubleshooting of Datamax printers, although not much on this specific model. Couple things to check:
1. Be sure the Transfer Switch is in the correct position. If you are using a ribbon, it should be on.
2. Try adjusting the Darkness POT on the front of the printer, this controls the print density. Also I have found the printers where people have damaged the POT while trying to adjust it which will also cause bad or no print.
3. Be sure you are using the correct type of ribbon for the label stock you are using. Also be sure it's ribbon the is designed for Datamax printers. Some thermal ribbons are wrapped with the ink side in, others with the ink side out, you need to use the correct one for your printer.
